This is 012 066, also known as 01 1066 of the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde [link] , standing next to Heidelberg main station on 28th july 2012.

I was on this train as supporter and we made a trip from Krefeld to Heidelberg.

Americans need to make more steam locomotives and cars so we can do more excursions like this. It seems that Europe has a different steam excursion every week on mainlines instead of museum grounds.

yes, it is! In Germany, there are a lot of historic trains, not only steam. The majority of the engines is in service by volunteers and you have large museum grounds not very often.

By the way: How will you run a 160 km/h steam engine on museum ground (not this one, but it exists one in Germany) :-)

Visiting Germany on a weekend, you should watch out for steam trains if interested.

In Harz Mountains and saxonia (perhaps also in western Germany, but I dunno) is regular steam service.
